Schnittke Akademie International

GERHART DARMSTADT zählt zu den führenden deutschen Barockvioloncellisten. Als Solist, Kammermusiker, Orchester- und Continuospieler, Dirigent und profunder Kenner des 17. bis 19. Jahrhunderts hat er sich als außergewöhnlicher Musiker und Musikwissenschaftler einen Namen gemacht. Es ist ihm ein Anliegen, die Musik als eine berührende Sprache der Seele und des Herzens zu verstehen und gerade auch die Kunst des idealen Begleitens zu vermitteln. Seine langjährige Beschäftigung mit dem Arpeggione (Guitarre-Violoncell) aus der Schubertzeit ermöglichen ihm ganz neue Klangwelten in zutiefst nach innen gehende Erlebnisräume.
An der Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg und der Alfred Schnittke Akademie International in Hamburg lehrt Gerhart Darmstadt historische Aufführungspraxis und Kammermusik mit Impulsen für eine zeitgemäße und zukunftsweisende Interpretation. Er ist Mitglied des Joseph Martin Kraus-Streichquartetts und Präsident der Internationalen Joseph Martin Kraus-Gesellschaft e. V. mit Sitz in Buchen (Odenwald).

GERHART DARMSTADT is one of the leading baroque cellists in Germany. He is well-known as an extraordinary musician and profound expert on the 17th to 19th century, performing widely as soloist, chamber music partner, orchestra- and continuo-player and as conductor. He is particularly interested in music as a touching language of the soul and heart and also in the art of the ideal accompaniment. His extensive study of the Arpeggione from Schubert’s time enables him to reach into new sound worlds of deeply personal and intimate character.
Gerhart Darmstadt teaches historical performing practice and chamber music at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater and the Alfred Schnittke Akademie International in Hamburg, thus fostering contemporary and forward-looking musical interpretation. He is member of the Joseph Martin Kraus-Streichquartett and president of the Internationale Joseph Martin Kraus-Gesellschaft e. V. in Buchen (Odenwald).
