ASAI Piano Competition 2012
1. ENTRY CONDITIONS
1.1 The Competition is open to pianists of any nationality who were under age of 36
on March 22 nd 2012.
1.2 Candidates should provide the following by e-mail:
a) a duly completed application form
a detailed Program chosen for the two rounds of the Competition, with duration
of every piece and/or part
c) a detailed Curriculum Vitae
d) one recent glossy photograph, which can be reproduced (300 or more dpi).
e) Copy of the candidate’s Passport
f) Copy of the Registration Fee payment or transfer (35€, see 1.6 for payment details)
1.3 Only JPG and PDF formats will be accepted
1.4 All documents should be received before February 15th, 2012 at the following email address:

1.5 The Organization will notify the candidates if they have been accepted for the Competition by March 1st, 2012. Candidates who have been selected and are unable to take part in the Competition should notify the Oranization as soon as possible.
1.6 Selected candidates must pay an application fee of €75 before March 1st 2012. For candidates registered for the Masterclass no Application Fee is required. Payment will be in Euros net of bank charges by transfer to:

1.7 Application fees are not refundable.
1.8 Each participant will be asked to show his/her ID/passport at Registration prior to the competition.
2. COMPETITION RULES & CONDITIONS
2.1 The Competition will be held in Hamburg (Germany) from March 22 - 25, 2012.
2.2 All performances will be public.
2.3 All competitors must contact the Secretariat on March 22nd, 2012 before 6 p.m.
2.4 The order of performances will be decided in a draw on March 22nd, 2012 at 7 p.m. in the presence of the competitors and jury. The playing order of competitors will be adhered to in each of the two stages.
2.5 Competitors who are not ready to perform when called upon to do so may be disqualified.
2.6 Rights on any Competition performance, recording or film will belong to “Alfred Schnittke Akademie International” and no fee is payable to any competitor on account of those performances, recordings or broadcast of them.
2.7 All participants must be available to representatives of the media throughout the Competition.
2.8 All prize-winners must personally receive their prizes except in the event of illness, where presentation of a medical certificate will be required without which the Prize will be returned to the Academy Fund.
2.9 At the end of each stage all the competitors are required to be present when the results are announced.
3 VISAS
3.1 The “Alfred Schnittke Academy International” will provide all documents necessary for obtaining a VISA. If a VISA is needed, the contestant is advised to complete the registration as soon as possible.
4 EXCERPTS FROM THE ADJUDICATION RULES
4.1 Six competitors with the highest scores obtained in the First Stage will be admitted
to the second (Final) stage.
4.2 The Jury will decide on the Admission of Competitors to the Second (Final) Stage
as well as on the award of the Prizes.
4.3 Decisions of the jury are final and are not subject to question, revision or appeal.
4.4 Jury members may not have any contact with competitors while they are still in the Competition.
4.5 The names of competitors admitted to the Second Round will be announced
after the decision of the Jury. The names will be given in order of appearance.
The Scores will not be made public.
4.6 The competitors with the highest scores obtained in the Final stage will receive the first,
second and the third prize and will receive diplomas accrediting their prize-winner status.
4.8 Competitors who reach the final round will receive a diploma of Finalist.
All the other competitors will receive an accreditation for their participation in the Competition.
4.9 The First prize is absolute and indivisible. Second and Third Prizes may be ex – aequo.
4.10 The jury may decide to withhold one or more of the prizes.
5 JURY
5.1 The Names of the Members of the Jury will be published on the web site of the
“Alfred Schnittke Akademie International” on March 15th, 2012
5.2 The jury will be made up of concert musicians and music educators of international renown
from various conservatories and music schools.
5.3 The jury reserves the right to request partial performances and to interrupt a performance
that exceeds the allocated time.
6 SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
March 18th: Opening Ceremony and Reception - Pianofest 2011
March 18th - March 22nd: PIANO MASTERCLASS
March 18th, 20th, 22nd, 23rd, 24th, 25th: PIANO RECITALS
March 22nd - 25th: PIANO COMPETITION
7 PRIZES
FIRST PRIZE: 2.500 € Cash prize and Diploma
1 Recital at the “Alfred SchnittkeAcademy” (2012 – 2013 Season)
1 Recital at the “Bell Arte Europa ICS –Young Pianists Festival”
in Sigüenza (Spain), Spring 2013
The Honorarium of both Recitals will cover the Travel and Hotel costs.
SECOND PRIZE: 1.500 € Cash prize and Diploma
THIRD PRIZE: 1.000 € Cash Prize and Diploma
The acceptance of any prize implies a commitment to participate in the closing recital.
The prizes are stated before any applicable taxes or withholdings.
8 REPERTORY
8.1 Every contestant will choose a Program according to the time and Repertoire fixed for each Round.
8.2 First Round (Eliminatory Stage)
a) One Sonata by Scarlatti
b) One Étude by Liszt (choice between Études d ́Exécution Transcendante, Études après Paganini, Trois Études de Concert, Deux Études de Con- cert, Ab Irato) or
Chopin (Op.10 or Op.25)
c) A free choice solo work
d) One Sonata by Beethoven 2
8.3 Second Round (Final Stage)
The Program shall be not shorter than 45 and not longer than 55 minutes and will be performed in full. It is not obligatory to play with Repetitions.
e) a polyphonic work by Bach or Shostakovich
f) one or more Works from W.A.Mozart to the present. No own work or composition will be accepted.
g) compulsory piece: one piece by Alfred Schnittke chosen between Improvisation and Fugue or Preludium and Fugue, Variations on a Chord, one Sonata
8.4 All pieces must be performed from memory. Only the Work chosen by Alfred Schnittke may be played with the score. The Jury can ask at any time for a copy of the work submitted and the contestant is obliged to produce it.
8.5 All pieces included in the Program must be pre- pared in their entirety. No movements or parts of works are allowed. In case of doubt regarding works tradition- ally played partially, the Contestant must contact the Secretary before submitting the Program. No work can be played both in the First and in the Final Round.
8.6 March 15, 2012 will be the deadline to accept any changes in the Repertory.
9 FURTHER REGULATIONS:
9.1 The organization will provide information on available accommodation to contestants who don’t participate in the Masterclass. Those contestants participating in the Masterclass will receive free lodging.
9.2 All participants under 18 years must to be accompanied by an adult. The organization will not be responsible for any problems with participants.
9.3 Registering in this Competition implies acceptance of its terms and conditions.
10 INTERPRETATION:
10.1 Should any dispute arise regarding the interpretation of any part of the rules and regulations of the “Alfred Schnittke Academy International” – Piano Competition 2012, the prevailing interpretation will be that of the German version.
10.2 The Organization reserves the right to amend any of the rules or regulations contained here-in if considered necessary for efficient management of the Competition.
